Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre) Federico García Lorca

Blood Wedding is one of the most powerful of the plays of Federico García Lorca, perhaps Spain's greatest playwright of the last century. Written a few years before the Civil War it takes a simple tragic story of a runaway bride in a village in Andalucía torn apart by blood feuds. The results are predictably bloody, but the author transforms the story into a passionate and heartrending poem not only of violence but redemption.

In this production the emotions are heightened by an original score written and performed by Tomás Jiménez. In addition María Garcia (Título de Bailarina Profesional. Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. Madrid) has been contracted to offer choreography and advice about flamenco dancing.

The performers tell the story not only through acting but also through mime and dance, using authentic flamenco movement and music. This mixed media presentation aims to catch the vividness of Lorca's intense vision and offers a fusion of the arts in the service of the poetry and passion that have made ‘Bodas de Sangre’ a classic.
